The muscle that regenerates after total destruction by mincing does not allow a complete functional recovery if the operation is performed in young adult rats. There is a satisfactory functional recovery if the operation is performed on prepubertal rats because the regenerate is able to generate an active tension appreciable throughout the joint stroke.
