Abstract
Attention is drawn to an old theory of gravitation, which, although it is not in accord with experimental results, may nevertheless promote a better understanding of Einstein's general theory of relativity. The theory referred to was presented by G. Nordstrom in 1912, and was subsequently partially brought into completely covariant form by A. Einstein and A.D. Fokker (1914). The theory is here presented systematically, and certain of its implications for general relativity and controversial aspects of the cosmological problem are pointed out.
