(en) We present the results of an experiment on the on-line perception of prosodic boundaries in French. In total, 48 samples (in both versions: natural and delexicalized speech) were annotated by 125 naïve listeners, and 1239 perceived prosodic boundaries were analysed. In natural speech, the presence of a silent pause and the syntactic structure act as strong cues to prosodic boundaries. Syntactic closure may trigger the perception of a prosodic boundary in natural speech even when no acoustic cue is present. In manipulated speech, silent pauses are a strong cue, and the second most important cue is syllabic lengthening. Lengthening due to hesitation (French particle euh) is perceived as a boundary in manipulated speech, but not in natural speech.
