(en) What means "justification of the teaching of literature" ? At least three types of things, which correspond to three types of parallel debates, sometimes intermingled : some justifications concern the corpus, others, the ways of reading, and still others, the theoretical knowledge on the object literature. This article aims to unravel this skein by examining successively three kinds of justification : that of the school institution, whose evolution is traced in broad strokes from the origins, that of the experts, where are defined the terms and positions of the debate and high school students, whose perceptions were collected in three schools with contrasting profiles.
