- Abstract
- The theophanic hymn Nahum 1:2–8, within which striking and often unsettling representations of the deity unfold, constitutes the starting point of this research. Far from being limited to a purely philological or historical-critical approach, this study adopts an innovative methodology at the intersection of textual analysis, cognitive linguistics, and intercultural comparison. Through a close reading of the Masoretic Text and the Septuagint, the research highlights a complex metaphorical architecture of the divine figure, whose contours are rooted in the royal and theological traditions of the Ancient Near East. The analysis reveals that the divine images in Nahum as cosmic judge and warrior stem from deep cognitive structures, accessible through the tools of conceptual metaphor theory and conceptual blending. In this sense, the hymn does not depict divine violence ; it engages a sophisticated theological rhetoric aimed at signifying justice, sovereignty, and power within a shared cultural imagination. Through this approach, this research renews the understanding of a prophetic passage long relegated to the margins. Attention to the divergences between textual versions - especially between the MT and the LXX - reveals significant choices regarding the construction of the divine figure and underscores the importance of cultural contexts in shaping theological representations.
