- This paper is a reflection about the conditions in which we can think, in the field of architecture, that aesthetics and ethics are very close one to the other. If we think a moment that the work of architect is not to add aesthetics to an efficient distribution of function. But if we think that architecture itself has a function: The function to bring the subject in inaugural contact with form (quote of Patrick Schumacher)… So that before architecture there is no pertinent form. …So that architecture is an 'arké-tecture', … or a first 'tecture', …. or a first hidden structure. … So that there is no structure before architecture. Than we could think that architecture just establishes in the Real, not a com-position of figures of architecture, but a dis-position of matters – dis-position called 'Space' or structure - for the first wellbeing (not happiness) of the Subject. In that sense, Architecture would be the inauguration of form in a perpetual renewal or in a perpetual insistence, inauguration of form without which we cannot live really, …or without which we wouldn't even have a stance. So, architecture would be the concrete authority by which we live really. But this - the concrete authority by which we live really- is a possible definition of Ethics (not morality). So, -said in a provocative way- Architecture and Ethics are close one tot the other: both can be understood as the concrete authority by which we live really or by which we can have a stance in front of the Real. Now, if we think this first concrete authority, -before words-, we just must admit that it becomes an authority because we know it by the feeling, or before explicit language. But knowledge by the feeling is precisely the original Greek sense of the word aesthesis. So, it is this aesthesis or knowledge by the feeling of an inaugural disposition of matters or of architecture, that becomes the concrete authority by which we live really and have a stance. This means that it is the aesthetic of an inaugural disposition of matters or of architecture, that becomes ethics - and gives us a stance. That’s the beautiful inaugural role of architecture. In the full paper, this thought is build up point by point, departing of a quote of Mario Merz: 'Architecture is the most important art because if one brings two stones together, one creates a refuge'.
