Abstract
(en) We usually read that in ancient Egypt the seat with crossed legs, an exclusively male prerogative, has a military purpose and is also used by officials for their journeys. Nevertheless, some pictures do not have any military connotation, but a content with sexual hint. The apparent contradiction between the two kinds of images has probably a very simple explanation ; the word "masculinity" has a double definition : il refers to the physical and moral strenght as well as to the sexual vigour.
