Abstract
(en) Unilateral dorsal rhizotomy (thoracic level 5 to 10) in dogs aged 6 months (n=4) induces within 3 months scoliosis whose convexity is turned toward the rhizotomized side. Paravertebral muscles (ilio-costalis and intertransversalis) of the convex side have nearly twice as much AMP-deaminase, CPK, PFK, aldolase, pyruvate kinase, LDH and MDH in comparison with the same muscle of the concave side, but one third of mitochondrial ICDH. Trapezius and latissimus dorsi are less changed, and intercostal muscles of both sides remain unchanged. Rhizotomy induces redifferentiation of paravertebral homolateral homometameric muscles toward the glycolytic phenotype.
