- The author uses the expression used by Habermas "renewal of utopian energies" to go beyond the utopia of work specific to socialism and invent new powers of transformation. However, he does not think that the "defense of the lifeworld against systems" allows us to understand this profound reconfiguration of the transformative powers of reality in the 21st century. He claims that the question of the technical effects of productive forces has remained unthought of in the Marxist tradition, and also in the construction of the social State, in favor of an over-investment in social relations of production. Taking this under-estimated aspect into account implies a triple reformulation: a reformulation of the relationship to nature, a reformulation of the relationship to action and especially to the predictability of the effects of action, and a reformulation of the notion demos. On these three axes, a revolution is carried by the ecological movement which goes well beyond what Habermas described, at the end of the 20th century, under the expression "defense of the lifeworld".
