It has been shown that the use of a phosphine oxide (Lucirin-TPO, MAPO) as a replacement of the conventional Camphorquinone/Amines (CQ) system in a model BisGMA/TegDMA resin and resin composite allows for faster kinetics and increased conversion with reduced irradiation time (1 to 3 seconds). These results however must be reproduced with a wide range of resin formulations. The present work investigated the polymerization kinetics of MAPO-based resins using BisGMA, UDMA or BisEMA as a base monomer, diluted with TegDMA in various proportions. The use of 1 s irradiation time was associated with high conversions (76.5 %) and high rates (0.79 s-1). UDMA may advantageously substitute BisGMA and the slow kinetics of BisEMA may be used as an agent to fine tune properties in ternary mixtures.
