- When I lectured at Scuola Normale I regularly observed in the mensa a lean professor with a somewhat haggard face who always ate with a great appetite, but whose name I could not make out. But then the Departimento per le costruzioni organized a lecture by Clifford Truesdell. Luckily I sat next to Charlotte Truesdell, who answered my question: 'This is Villaggio' emphasizing: 'He is very good!'. She then introduced me to him, and since then we had more and more contacts. HE even honoured me by participating in my seminars, he became an editor of a volume of the works of Bernoulli, he helped me with an article on Galileo, which he translated, and, best of all, a good friendship grew between us. For all this I am deeply grateful to Piero and these lines try to show this!.
