Abstract
Using the resource dependency theory (RDT), this paper analyses the diversification of three groups of daily paid print media (IPM, Rossel, Tecteo/Nethys) in the small French-speaking Belgian market between 2000 and 2019. Based on a quantitative analysis of a database comprising some 301 activities, the research shows that the limited resources and high concentration of their small original market forced these print media groups to expand their activities to specific sectors. While Rossel and Tecteo/Nethys are mainly diversifying within the press industry, IPM is looking for new resources in areas only loosely related to its original core business. The print media groups are also moving out of the small restricted Belgian market to acquire new resources abroad.
