Abstract
This chapter introduces MedicalStudio, a composable, open-source easily evolvable cross-platform framework targeted to medical interventions and equally attentive to research and therapeutic concerns. It consists of a commonly framework for planning, simulating and performing interventional procedures assuring more compatibility within the surgical workflow. Details about the framework architecture and its implementation are presented in this chapter together with the description of general purpose components for image segmentation, multimodal registration, visualization 2D, 3D and augmented reality. Finally an application developed with MedicalStudio to provide surgical guidance during the maxillofacial surgery shows the versatility and promising dissemination of this medical framework.
