This contribution is the result of an academic work on the renovation of an emblematic building from the second post-war period. The first stage of the research involved an in-depth analysis of the building - from the reasons for the project and its context, to the technical and spatial solutions adopted by the architects, to the changes the building underwent in relation to its original state - in order to define its heritage value, i.e. its architectural, social, technical and constructional qualities. The work then focused on heritage and energy considerations, with the aim of defining the best intervention strategy from a range of proposed variants. Following a multi-criteria comparison based on the assessment of the intrinsic values, an overall intervention strategy was proposed, reducing the energy needs for heating by 50%. This scenario considers both the technical solutions deemed to be the most effective and the preservation of both the image and the materiality of the most significant parts of the building.
