In March 2020, the European Commission issued a Gender Equality Strategy for 2020–25. Analysts have noted that the implementation of this new strategy is based on two main principles: intersectionality and gender mainstreaming. If intersectionality, on the one hand, is new at the European level, gender mainstreaming, on the other hand, has already almost three decades of existence since its first appearance in a European official document.
