Abstract
We give an overview of simulation of processes in terrestrial systems that have been carried out recently using (or with potential use of) supercomputing infrastructure at the Jülich Supercomputing Centre. The focus of this contribution is more on the processes that are simulated than on the technical aspects of the simulation on the supercomputing systems. The simulation examples span a range of scales from a single root to a river catchment. Approaches to improve the parametrisation of simulation models making use of data assimilation techniques and high resolution geophysical methods are also presented
