- This article provides an overview of the phenomenon of increases in the commercial weight standard that affected several Greek cities in the Late Hellenistic period. It starts by examining the Athenian metrological reform of the late second century BC. Then, it compares the Athenian metrological reforms with the corpus of commercial weights from Cyzic and Istros, as well as the Seleucid weights from Antioch and the weights from Byblos in the Southern Levant. All of these cities appear to have increased their weight standards simultaneously. However, further research is required to confirm these increases and to determine whether they can be attributed to a common cause or not.
