Abstract
Mossbauer spectroscopy and magnetic susceptibility measurements show that the Fe-(29-40)Mn-5 Al austenitic alloys undergo an antiferromagnetic transformation similar to that observed in the Fe-(30-44)Mn austenitic steels. The Neel temperature, T/sub N/, increases as a function of the Mn content (from 331K to 376K) while aluminium additions (5%wt.) induce a sharp decrease of T/sub N/( sime 100K) but a small increase of the hyperfine field at OK(from 40 to 47 kOe for 34Mn alloys).
