Abstract
(en) [Arterial hypertension in an african patient: it appears essential not to qualify it automatically as essential! A case report] We report the case of a black African patient who was admitted to the hospital for severe kidney failure due to long-standing hypertension, resistant to multiple drugs, and complicated by severe heart failure. Based on the patient’s clinical history, a possible secondary hypertension was suspected, which was confirmed by high plasma aldosterone levels associated with very low renin levels. Abdominal computed tomography revealed bilateral adrenocortical adenomas. The final diagnosis was primary aldosteronism. This case report highlights the need for an exhaustive etiologic approach when facing resistant hypertensive disease in black subjects.
