- (en) [Clinical research in the intensive care: Results of the investigation of the Congress Nurses Committee of the SRLF 2014] Although nurses-led research is being developed, no data on nursing care trials in the intensive care units (ICU) exists. The Nursing Congress Committee of the French Intensive Care Society decided to survey intensive care nurses, physiotherapists and physicians in order to determine their respective role, perception in critical care research, its barriers and incentives. Whereas a number of physician responders declare being involved in the design, and the coordination of clinical trials, paramedics mainly perform execution tasks. The gap in paramedics’ knowledge of clinical trials practice pleads for the spreading of the information in the existing aids. According to the nurses’ opinion, the main reasons to perform clinical trials in the ICU are the improvement of the quality of care and the updating of professional skills. All categories of respondents agree on the main barrier to a greater involvement of paramedics in clinical trials, being the absence of dedicated paramedical time.
