Abstract
This contribution highlights the most important consequences of spillover phenomena in catalysis. Spillover species keep catalysts clean. They create or regenerate selective sites through a remote control mechanism. They protect catalysts against harmful solid state reactions. A possible mechanism for remote control in selective oxidation is outlined. The applicability of the concept is continuously extending to new types of reactions.
