The aim of our research is threefold. Firstly, we talk about children's literature in French first language class and in French foreign (second) language class. This literature is accompanied by an educational device that teachers and students use to achieve a specific goal. By that fact , our research is primarily in the field of didactics of French as a first language. We emphasize that the French in the school context envisaged here is taught language and medium of instruction at a time. Our research is then registered in the field of didactics of French as a foreign (second)language. We highlight its cultural component in the context of intercultural exchanges. Secondly, the influence of the native culture and the readers' collective memory is also the subject of our research. We compare, on the one hand, groups of readers who are distinguished by their belonging to different languages and cultures and, on the other hand, the Belgian sample is itself the bearer of linguistic and sociocultural diversity . Thirdly, developing the educational dimension of our research, we also consider a " mediating instrument " (didactic device) as a study object. In the context of this research, a reading activity is to act on an object (the novel to read) to achieve the objective (to interpret ) and to reach the goal ( to understand the literary text, to experience reading pleasure). The relationship between the reader and the literary is regulated by an educational tool developed for this purpose.
