Abstract
(en) The aim of the present thesis was to investigate the therapeutic potential of MSCs in disease models strongly associated with neuroinflammation. Transplantation of MSCs has been shown to be effective in various diseases, also exerting neurotrophic and anti-inflammatory functions, whereas their mechanisms of action remain widely unknown. As immune responses are specific for different insults, a particular and adaptable modulation is necessary. We herein aimed at examining whether MSCs could demonstrate these abilities in-vitro and in-vivo. Thus, we tested them in different experimental set-ups and disease models such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and neuropathic pain.
