Abstract
The theological contribution of this doctoral thesis is to have rethought, in light of the magisterium and theological science, the question of the relationship between faith and life in order to chart new paths for a transformative proclamation of the Gospel. It emphasizes the urgency of a catechesis on the relationship between faith and life for a Church concerned with the maturation of faith, personal and collective conversion, and the religious coherence of its faithful. Its originality is threefold. First, it highlights the notion of “positive secularity.” Its goal is to awaken collective awareness of the imperatives of action and transformation of the Christian faith. Its fundamental aim is to show where God's action ends and human action begins in ecclesial and societal life. This notion will help to combat “psychodependent” religious practices that prevent Christians from living their faith responsibly. Dialogue between faith, reason, and culture is crucial for such awareness. Next, the Bumuntu paradigm (the fact of being truly human) is proposed as a means of inculturating faith by drawing parallels between the human and Christian values it promotes: exemplarity/life testimony, excellence/holiness, and relationality or interdependence/communion with oneself, with God, with others, and with the cosmos. Finally, another original aspect of this doctoral dissertation is its desire to place catechesis within a process of incompleteness. For it is at every age that we learn to become Christians or to become Christians again, not without effort and with the help of God's grace. This process must always be renewed, taking into account the challenges facing the Church and society today.
