Supporting the entrepreneur before and during the creation phase of his/her business is a well-studied topic, but what about the reentry phase? Using the individual data of 6,322 entrepreneurs (voluntarily vs involuntarily exited from their previous business), as well as national experts data from 70 different countries, we analyze the impact of the entrepreneurial ecosystem on the intention to recreate a business. Our results show that an involuntary exit significantly reduces the propensity to recreate. However, if the effect of interaction with the entrepreneurial ecosystem is taken into account, we find that the more the entrepreneurial ecosystem is developed, the more entrepreneurs who have experienced an involuntary exit intend to recreate a business, contrary to those having experienced a voluntary exit.
