(en) Handbooks for liturgy are rarely the topic of scientific researches. It seems that they have played a decisive role in the second half of the 20th century. The article shows that qre particulary concerned L’Église en prière under the responsibility of Aimé-Georges Martimort and Dans vos assemblées by Joseph Gelineau. Those handbooks were quickly authority, and well beyond the French speaking world. The first was more historical, and the second more systematic and pastoral. The article analyses their reception and their subsequent new editions after the publication of liturgical books renewed in line with Vatican II. The article discusses the need to undertake a similar project for Postmodernity marked by the disappearance of cultural knowledge, which was necessary to participate actively in the liturgy.
