As highly polarized and specialized cell structures,trichomes are seen as a model for cell patterning and differentiation in plants. Then, due to their secretion of bio-active compounds, trichomes possess high commercial and reseach value. By understanding the genetic and molecular framework of glandular trichome formation, we hope to understand how plants create those secretory organs; and how they secrete specializedmetabolites. This knowledge could then be exported to increase plant resistance to pests in fields, but also easemetabolite production in pharmaceutic industry.
