(en) To the Editor: In a recent single-blind, randomized controlled trial, Winnicki et al.1 showed that the use of taurolidine-based catheter lock solutions (taurolidine-citrate-heparin twice weekly and taurolidine-citrate-urokinase once weekly) significantly reduced the incidence of catheter-related bacteremia (CRB) (incidence risk ratio, 0.25; 95% confidence interval, 0.10–0.73; P = 0.009) and catheter malfunction (P = 0.001 for both reversal of catheter lines and need for thrombolytics) compared with citrate 4%.
