- (en) The prognosis for patients with cystic fibrosis has shown a progressive improvement over the past three decades and the median life expectancy is currently about 30 years. This is believed to reflect a more comprehensive use of the conventional (symptomatic) approach by more and more centers. Further improvement will require new strategies some of which are derived of the identification of the CF gene in 1989 and should lead to a more fundamental treatment of the disease.
