Abstract
(en) In December 2010, at the end of the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion, the European Commission launched a new initiative on poverty. Officially designated the “Platform against Poverty and Social Exclusion”, it is part of what has been christened the Europe 2020 Strategy, which aims to achieve a number of ambitious targets by 2020. They include reducing by at least 20 million the number of Europeans affected by or threatened with poverty and social exclusion. In this perspective, this chapter discusses one potential "social innovation": the unconditional basic income.
