- (en) Horizontality and effectiveness in anti-globalist networks Unlike the classical models of social movement development, anti-globalist associations and events have not generally been institutionalized. The organizational structure of anti-globalism still relies largely on relatively autonomous networks. This article invites consideration of the reflexivity and political cultures of those involved as primary in explaining why relatively supple reticular structures persist within the anti-globalism movement. Through case studies, qualitative observations, and interviews undertaken between 1999 and 2008, this article shows that the apparent propensity of specifically anti-globalist organizations to the reticular form hinges on a working misconception. Some laud the network for its effectiveness, others because it favours a horizontal and participatory organization. Hence the form of the network represents for anti-globalists two sets of values that are not necessarily compatible.
