Abstract
Two methods are described for extracting the wet path length correction to altimeter's range measurements from a two-frequency radiometer. Both instruments are on-board of the same spacecraft and the wind speed is assumed known to within +/-2 m/s from the altimeter readings. One method is a modification of Grody's method for the determination of water vapor and liquid from space. The other method is an extension of a method proposed by Wu for ground-based determination of the wet path length. A careful comparison of their respective performances is made by proceeding to a simulation analysis on 1080 cases. It is concluded that the extended Grody's method works the best giving, for the analysed set, a maximum standard deviation of 1.8 cm for the wet path length.
