Abstract
This article considers the Athenian decree IG I3 1453 and its significance in the context of ancient Greek metrology. It examines the various debates surrounding its dating, interpretation, and application. Emphasis is placed on the nature and motivations of the decree, highlighting its economic, commercial, and financial implications rather than its strictly political or imperialist aspects. In addition, the paper addresses the issue of Athenian weight standards, in particular the 105-drachma standard associated with the decree, and examines evidence that might suggest its adoption and dissemination in the ancient Greek world.
