Abstract
A search for electroweak production of a single vectorlike <math display="inline"><mi>T</mi></math> quark in association with a bottom (<math display="inline"><mi>b</mi></math>) quark in the all-hadronic decay channel is presented. This search uses proton-proton collision data at <math display="inline"><msqrt><mi>s</mi></msqrt><mo>=</mo><mn>13</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><mi>TeV</mi></math> collected by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC during 2016–2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of <math display="inline"><mn>138</mn><mtext> </mtext><mtext> </mtext><msup><mi>fb</mi><mrow><mo>-</mo><mn>1</mn></mrow></msup></math>. The <math display="inline"><mi>T</mi></math> quark is assumed to have charge <math display="inline"><mn>2</mn><mo>/</mo><mn>3</mn></math> and decay to a top (<math display="inline"><mi>t</mi></math>) quark and a Higgs (<math display="inline"><mi>H</mi></math>) or <math display="inline"><mi>Z</mi></math> boson. Hadronic decays of the <math display="inline"><mi>t</mi></math> quark and the <math display="inline"><mi>H</mi></math> or <math display="inline"><mi>Z</mi></math> boson are reconstructed from the kinematic properties of jets, including those containing <math display="inline"><mi>b</mi></math> hadrons. No deviation from the standard model prediction is observed in the reconstructed <math display="inline"><mi>t</mi><mi>H</mi></math> and <math display="inline"><mi>t</mi><mi>Z</mi></math> invariant mass distributions. The 95% confidence level upper limits on the product of the production cross section and branching fraction of a <math display="inline"><mi>T</mi></math> quark produced in association with a <math display="inline"><mi>b</mi></math> quark and decaying via <math display="inline"><mi>t</mi><mi>H</mi></math> or <math display="inline"><mi>t</mi><mi>Z</mi></math> range from 1260 to 68 fb for <math display="inline"><mi>T</mi></math> quark masses of 600–1200 GeV.
