- (en) The article analyses the evolution of practical theology from the Second Vatican Council to the present day, highlighting the shift from a deductive model (the application of doctrines to specific cases) to an inductive and correlative one. First and foremost, the theoretical foundations are outlined: Rahner defines the discipline as the self-realisation of the Church in history. Pope Francis has reinforced this vision by promoting a ‘contextual’ theology based on the Incarnation. The article then delves into the methodology of correlation. Drawing inspiration from Tillich and Tracy, it proposes a critical dialogue between three poles: present human experiences, Scripture and tradition. Recent developments in “ordinary theology” (the faith of everyday life) and “polyphonic theology”, which brings together the voices of the Magisterium, academics and the faithful, are also presented. Finally, the author emphasises the importance of qualitative methods (life stories, interviews) and epistemological rigour to prevent theology from becoming mere sociology.
