- <p>A measurement of the parity-violating decay asymmetry parameter, <inline-formula><mml:math display="inline"><mml:msub><mml:mi>α</mml:mi><mml:mi>b</mml:mi></mml:msub></mml:math></inline-formula>, and the helicity amplitudes for the decay <inline-formula><mml:math display="inline"><mml:mrow><mml:msubsup><mml:mrow><mml:mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mml:mi></mml:mrow><mml:mrow><mml:mi>b</mml:mi></mml:mrow><mml:mrow><mml:mn>0</mml:mn></mml:mrow></mml:msubsup><mml:mo stretchy="false">→</mml:mo><mml:mi>J</mml:mi><mml:mo stretchy="false">/</mml:mo><mml:mi>ψ</mml:mi><mml:mo stretchy="false">(</mml:mo><mml:msup><mml:mrow><mml:mi>μ</mml:mi></mml:mrow><mml:mrow><mml:mo>+</mml:mo></mml:mrow></mml:msup><mml:msup><mml:mrow><mml:mi>μ</mml:mi></mml:mrow><mml:mrow><mml:mo>-</mml:mo></mml:mrow></mml:msup><mml:mo stretchy="false">)</mml:mo><mml:msup><mml:mrow><mml:mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mml:mi></mml:mrow><mml:mrow><mml:mn>0</mml:mn></mml:mrow></mml:msup><mml:mo stretchy="false">(</mml:mo><mml:mi>p</mml:mi><mml:msup><mml:mrow><mml:mi>π</mml:mi></mml:mrow><mml:mrow><mml:mo>-</mml:mo></mml:mrow></mml:msup><mml:mo stretchy="false">)</mml:mo></mml:mrow></mml:math></inline-formula> is reported. The analysis is based on 1400 <inline-formula><mml:math display="inline"><mml:msubsup><mml:mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mml:mi><mml:mi>b</mml:mi><mml:mn>0</mml:mn></mml:msubsup></mml:math></inline-formula> and <inline-formula><mml:math display="inline"><mml:msubsup><mml:mover accent="true"><mml:mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mml:mi><mml:mo accent="true" stretchy="false">¯</mml:mo></mml:mover><mml:mi>b</mml:mi><mml:mn>0</mml:mn></mml:msubsup></mml:math></inline-formula> baryons selected in <inline-formula><mml:math display="inline"><mml:mrow><mml:mn>4.6</mml:mn><mml:mtext> </mml:mtext><mml:mtext> </mml:mtext><mml:msup><mml:mrow><mml:mi>fb</mml:mi></mml:mrow><mml:mrow><mml:mo>-</mml:mo><mml:mn>1</mml:mn></mml:mrow></mml:msup></mml:mrow></mml:math></inline-formula> of proton–proton collision data with a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV marc:recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. By combining the <inline-formula><mml:math display="inline"><mml:msubsup><mml:mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mml:mi><mml:mi>b</mml:mi><mml:mn>0</mml:mn></mml:msubsup></mml:math></inline-formula> and <inline-formula><mml:math display="inline"><mml:msubsup><mml:mover accent="true"><mml:mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</mml:mi><mml:mo accent="true" stretchy="false">¯</mml:mo></mml:mover><mml:mi>b</mml:mi><mml:mn>0</mml:mn></mml:msubsup></mml:math></inline-formula> samples under the assumption of <inline-formula><mml:math display="inline"><mml:mi>C</mml:mi><mml:mi>P</mml:mi></mml:math></inline-formula> conservation, the value of <inline-formula><mml:math display="inline"><mml:msub><mml:mi>α</mml:mi><mml:mi>b</mml:mi></mml:msub></mml:math></inline-formula> is measured to be <inline-formula><mml:math display="inline"><mml:mrow><mml:mn>0.30</mml:mn><mml:mo>±</mml:mo><mml:mn>0.16</mml:mn><mml:mo stretchy="false">(</mml:mo><mml:mtext>stat</mml:mtext><mml:mo stretchy="false">)</mml:mo><mml:mo>±</mml:mo><mml:mn>0.06</mml:mn><mml:mo stretchy="false">(</mml:mo><mml:mtext>syst</mml:mtext><mml:mo stretchy="false">)</mml:mo></mml:mrow></mml:math></inline-formula>. This measurement provides a test of theoretical models based on perturbative QCD or heavy-quark effective theory.</p>
