Abstract
In many applications (search Radar, altimetry Radar, Base Stations Antennas ...), there is a great interest in designing the so-called “Cosecant Squared” antenna, namely an antenna radiating a uniform electric field within a horizontal area. In this paper, we present a fast algorithm to synthesize such a radiation pattern with a linear antenna array. The proposed algorithm will be applied here to, but is not restricted to a “Cosecant squared” radiation pattern, as it can be used to synthesize a more general shape of radiation pattern, making it suitable for beamforming applications. The obtained results are presented and compared to the performances obtained with a classical global optimization scheme based on Genetic Algorithm.
