A study in a population of 397 Belgian retarded women, concerning tho mothods of contraception used, showed medical factors had no impact on the choice of the contraceptive methods. Some factors connected to the mental institutions appeared more influent. The authors analysed the necessary conditions for the physician to prescribe,in a real responsible position, contraceptive methods to thal specifie population. They also investigated the evaluation means of the mentally handicapped person's consent and the possibility to integrale the opinion of those patients'families and nursing teams.
