Soil and plant hydraulic resistances play a key-role in controling soil water fluxes towards the atmosphere. 3D models can be used to quantify these resistances based on a detailed description of soil and plant hydraulic property distribution. In addition simplified, upscaled approaches exist, which allow determining these resistances in a simplified but still accurate way. A special topic of attention is the spatial distribution of the uptake and how it affects the rhizosphere resistance.
