Abstract
Addn. of Me2C:CClNMe2 to a suspension of ZnCl2 in CH2Cl2 gave Me2C:C:N+Me2ZnCl3-, which gave with RCH:CHR1 68-88% cyclobutylideneammonium salts I (Z = N+Me2 ZnCl3-). Subsequent NaOH treatment gave 89-97% cyclobutanones I [Z = O, R = R1 = H or RR1 = (CH2)4 or (CH2)6].
