Abstract
1.Sartorius muscles of Rana temporaria poisoned with 0.4mM sodium monoiodoacétate were tetanized isometrically at 18°c for 10 to 15 seconds. 2.The muscles relaxed completely after the stimulation. 3.Rigor began 24 to 90 seconds after the end of stimulation. 4.The maximal tension was obtained within 2 to 3 minutes 5.Its reached 50 to 60 % of the maximal tetanic tension, but was quite higher that the tetanic tension at the end of the tetanus. 6.The rigor decreases to zero within a few hours. 7.A new electrical stimulation during the rigor induces some active contraction and relaxation. 8.Comparison with results published in the literature suggests that ATP lack is not the only cause of rigor.
