(en) When controversies within Christian communities are evoked, theolo- gical arguments, disciplinary rules or questions of calendar are studied. The use of the figure of the apostles is seldom considered. Yet they play a fundamental role in the processes of legitimation within communities. As the examination of the figures of Andrew, Mary Magdalene and Peter shows, they served not only as a vector of authority, but also to portray the controversies raging in different communities
