Abstract
Compared to modern standard French “en”, which only has two variants (en + C, en + V), Walloon dialects offer a remarkable diversity, with geminates in the contextual variants. We will first introduce the present forms of Lat. “inde” in the Walloon of Bastogne (south of Belgium) and in the Walloon of Liège and La Gleize (east of Belgium), with five contextual variants, trying to put the stress on inherent constraints. We examine further a more complex system of seven variants, prevailing in the south of Bastogne (Lutrebois), with other constrains governing the distribution of those variants, which had not been studied elsewhere.
