Abstract
The intermedial work of Jorge Eduardo Eielson results enigmatic and interesting due to the diversity of codes and genres explored by the author. The understanding of poetic language is one of the possible axes to analyze his creations, as well as the multiple transformations of this poetic language in the different moments of his work. This article aims to approach the relation between the khipu, as an archeological object of the Inca civilization, and the transition from written poetry, to visual poetry, to a pause in poetry and back to traditional poetry in the eielsonien universe. Under this perspective, the khipu can be understood as a tridimensional sign that anachronistically confronts the verbal sign, which had been regarded as insufficient and whose exploration had moved to plastic codes. The khipu, as a plastic sign that is potentially verbal, offers a dynamic force that allows resignifying the verbal code and it opens the way to the return of the author to poetry in the last years of artistic life.
