(en) [I am 30 years old and wish to participate to sports: which screening is needed for a medical certificate of ability to sports practice?] Preparticipation screening in athletes is meant to diagnose silent cardiovascular disease that could potentially lead to sudden cardiac death. Yet sudden cardiac death is a rare event affecting 1/100,000 athletes per year. This is the reason why global politics of pre participation screening is far from being cost-effective. A comprehensive athlete’s history and clinical evaluation are the first-line tests available to the practitioner, while an additional electrocardiogram has proven to be a useful and sensitive complementary tool, enabling to reduce false-positive tests to 4,2% when using specific Seattle criteria
