Abstract
Each crowdsourcing project pursues different objectives. In order to achieve desired objectives, project managers need to manage the crowdsourcing project process effectively. However, the company mindsets regarding the different crowdsourcing projects and how mindsets affect the project manager's decisions on the elements of the crowdsourcing project process have scarcely been considered. Using the qualitative method to interview the crowdsourcing project-holders and collect the secondary data from crowdsourcing platforms, we identify three mindset criteria and demonstrate their configuration to form two types of mindsets and how they differently affect the management processes of crowdsourcing projects, from the idea generation phase to implementation phase. More specifically, our findings identify the three kinds of criteria (optimal vs tentative method, close-minded solution vs open-minded idea, indifferent attitude vs respectful attitude), which shape two types of mindsets (goal-oriented mindset that can be divided into problem-solving goal and out-sourced goal, and means-oriented mindset). Results reveal how mindsets affect the making decision of the platform, task description, reward, selection criteria, and most importantly the implementation of the crowdsourcing idea.
