Prebiotics appear to be a particularly interesting nutritional approach when attempting to modify the metabolic alterations related to changes in the composition or activity of gut microbiota in various pathologies. Certain non-digestible carbohydrates from plant-based foods boast properties enabling them to favour bacteria which could play a role in regulating the key functions of the intestine (barrier, endocrine, immune functions, etc.) in the context of obesity and metabolic syndrome.
