Abstract
This article highlights the failures and successes of one particular but significant side of relations between France and Belgium. It aims to present a historical analysis of the interregional cooperation of French-Belgian border regions. It puts emphasis on the role and experience of interregional Trade Union cooperation which led to a Trade Union Council established in 1991. This article draws attention to the situation, the problem areas and the players among economic and social players in these border regions. It accounts for the salient steps in this process of cooperation from the end of 19th century to present, showing a development in fits and starts? This process had actually evolved in a historical, political and economic context of regional integration, which has gathered itself pace and lost momentum at different points in time.
