This paper presents two case studies regarding the syntactic (in)flexibility of idiomatic expressions. We compare the conclusions reached on the basis of corpus studies with native speaker judgements available in the Database of Dutch Dialect Idioms (DaDDI). Based on these two case studies, we conclude that both types of data collection are highly complementary and can mutually reinforce one another. This is in line with the recent rapprochement between the two approaches to linguistic data collection.
