Abstract
This focuses on the role of technicians and computer scientists in newsrooms. Starting with a literature review, we strive to understand the role of technicians in contemporary newsrooms, and the perception of journalists and researchers have of them. We found that technicians and journalists work in overlapping fields. This brings concerns among professionals whose jobs have become more precarious. We will also look at the main roles and profiles of technicians that we have met in Belgian newsrooms. Finally, we will explore the nature of the relations between technicians and journalists. We will also analyze how these two professional cultures collaborate and coproduce mediated "objects". In doing so, we will consider Howard Becker's theoretical framework. © 2013, Global Media Journal - Canadian Edition.
